To be very honest, teaching was never an original dream of mine. Many of the aspirations I had while young involved writing, giving speeches, and research. However, as I progressed through high school and university I learned a valuable truth about myself: the struggle and success of genuine teaching has incredible appeal to me. I have always been affected positively by the passion and drive of a determined teacher, and through additional experiences in college I realized I also possessed a similar ability.
I spent five strong years in South Korea as a teacher. Throughout many areas in Korea, Japan, and China, there is an unfortunate reputation for English teachers as being uninterested, underdeveloped, and unprofessional. There is certainly evidence of this. I have prided myself on the daily development that took place during my time in South Korea. My classroom became a refuge from other uncontrollable elements of the world, and I made sure the students in attendance at my classes would receive only my best efforts, and the highest quality of education in English. I encourage you to speak with my past employers to learn more of this for yourself.
My approach to English education comes from my own empathy for the students themselves. I take my second and third languages very seriously and assume the learners in the classroom takes theirs the same. Ultimately, unsuccessful teaching is a potential matter of money and time being wasted, and I value my own too much to consider theirs any less valuable.
I plan lessons with potential pitfalls in mind, and I bring a serious but comfortable attitude to the classroom each day. For most learners, language acquisition requires genuine trust with the teacher and lesson: a caring teacher leading a lesson made with care and concern will always work well with an engaged student. My philosophy on teaching considers all of these factors, and has won out many times in my teaching career.
Lessons are made completely with the student in mind. It would be wrong to explain a particular style, but I will say that the individual and his or her goals is key to whatever style I may have.
